H. JAMES SCHAFER

Mr. Schafer is a General Partner of Samuelson Schafer (SS) with offices in Kentfield and Los Angeles, California.  SS has been active in real estate development, management, consulting and investment since 1984.  Recent SS developments include office, retail, affordable and market rate residential developments examples of which include: One H Street – an adaptative reuse of a former telephone switch facility converted to thirty eight rental residential units with retail stores at street level; Lone Palm Court Apartments - a sixty unit mixed income development with affordable and market rate housing; and Rafael Town Center - a mixed use development of three hundred thousand square feet which includes office, retail, and apartments.

Prior to co-founding SS Mr. Schafer spent several years as a Managing General Partner of Lincoln Property Company involved in urban development in the City of San Francisco.  During that period  “100 Spear Street” a 20-story, 200,000 square foot office building was built, leased and sold.  In addition, entitlements and financing were obtained and construction started on three additional high rise office projects in San Francisco totaling approximately 600,000 square feet.  Mr. Schafer’s responsibilities at Lincoln Property Company included project management, housing credits, marketing, construction oversight, project design, entitlement and municipal interface.  Prior to joining Lincoln Property Company Mr. Schafer spent 13 years at Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Company and during the last 5 years he served as a Vice President and was responsible for the founding and management of the company’s New England commercial brokerage operations located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mr. Schafer is a consultant to family owned companies and directs the management and development of their assets.  His current engagements have run the gamut from a domestic and international restaurant and food products company to a company with significant third generation real estate holdings with a value in excess of Seventy Five Million Dollars.

The outside Board responsibilities of Mr. Schafer include: Member of the Board of Directors of Ritter Center, a non profit social service agency, Managing Member of NUBECO, LLC, a trade mark licensing company, the past Chairman and current member of the Board of Directors of Trader Vic’s Restaurant and Management Corporation, and a member of the Architectural Review Board of Kent Woodlands.

Mr. Schafer graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and later Masters Degree in Business Administration.  He is married and has two children and lives in Marin County.
